Le Pain de Gênes or 'Genoa Bread' in English, contrary to what its name sounds, is a French delicacy rich in almond marzipan. It is said to have been invented to commemorate the 1800 siege of French forces at Genoa, when the inhabitants of this Italian city largely survived on almonds.
